Effects of Soil Processing on Cementitiously Stabilized Soil Slurries
This paper documents effects of soil-processing techniques on the fundamental properties of unstabilized soil and shear strength of cementitiously stabilized soil slurries. Test mixtures included two fine-grained soils with moisture contents of 100 and 233% and one Type III Portland cement at contents of 10 and 15% by unstabilized slurry mass. Samples of processed and unprocessed soil were tested for fundamental soil properties such as Atterberg limits, gradation, specific gravity, and organic content. Processed and unprocessed soil slurries were mixed with cement, molded into 2:1 ratio cylinders, and tested for unconfined compressive strength after one, three, and seven days of submerged room temperature curing. Test results revealed a difference between processed and unprocessed material with respect to fundamental soil properties. Differences in chemically stabilized soil slurry shear strength were also observed and depended upon moisture content, cement content, and soil type.
