Sediment Transportation Mechanics: H. Sediment Discharge Formulas
Thirteen well-known sediment discharge formulas are presented with a view to making them convenient to use. The basis for each formula is outlined and results of measured bed sediment discharge on two sand bed streams are compared with values calculated with each of the 13 formulas. This is done on a graph of sediment discharge against water discharge for the two streams. In these calculations the relation between water depth, velocity and discharge was calculated by the Einstein-Barbarossa method. These comparisons of results calculated by formulas with measurements and with each other are interesting in that they bring out the great variability of the calculated sediment discharges. However, they are of only limited value in determining the general reliability of each formula.
