Long Term Performance of a Reinforced Clay Embankment
A test embankment of relatively soft cohesive soil with three different geogrids to reinforce the slopes was constructed in 1986 at Devon, Alberta. The embankment was fully instrumented to measure geogrid strains, soil deformations in the embankment as well as the foundation and pore pressures in both the embankment and foundation soils. Monitoring of the embankment continued to 1990 at which time major soil deformations had slowed down. Monitoring has been renewed in 2003 and 2004 to evaluate the long-term performance of this reinforced test embankment.
