Safety Problem of Freezing Projects in Saline Soils
In recent years, underground projects are being extensively carried out at the coastal area in China. As a usual way of ground reinforcement, artificial ground freezing (AGF) method meets the challenge of saline soil. Presence of salt in pore water brings strong influence on freezing process in saline soils. Disadvantages including freezing temperature depression and frozen strength loss have direct relationships with the salinity of the pore water. These factors create unfavorable influence on the properties of the frozen soil structure and may cause safety problems. For the safety of freezing projects in saline soils, a research on dependence of saline soil's freezing temperature depression and frozen strength loss on the salinity of the pore water is conducted by laboratory experiment studies. Furthermore, an investigation on the relationship between decrease of frozen soil wall thickness and freezing temperature depression is carried out. Based on that, a calculation method of thickness and bearing capacity of frozen soil wall is established for saline soil.
