In the latter part of April four engineers from the California-based structural engineering firm Degenkolb Engineers inspected the damage in L’Aquila, Italy, caused this year by the earthquake that struck on April 6. These four were among the first people permitted to enter the historic core of the city to examine the structural integrity of the fallen buildings. This is their story as told in their own words.
