Selected Historical Civil Engineering Landmarks within the Los Angeles Section of ASCE
As of May 2001, 62 projects have been designated as Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks (HCELs) within the ten-county area of the Los Angeles Section. Of these, five have been designated as National HCELs. Five projects have been designated as California State HCELs; this level of recognition was first awarded in the mid-1990s. For this presentation only a handful of the projects will be exhibited. We have chosen to present the five National HCELs, plus four Local HCELs representing buildings, water supply, surface transportation, and air transport facilities. A complete list of all 62 HCELs is attached. The History and Heritage Committee of the Los Angeles Section continues to search for projects which are worthy of being designated as Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks.
