A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Geosynthetics (geotextile, geogrid, geocell, geocomposite, and geomembrane) have been increasingly used for the construction of roadways to reduce required base thickness and/or prolong pavement life. The improvement of pavement performance is achieved by geosynthetics through separation, filtration, drainage, reinforcement, and/or containment. This paper summarizes the methods commonly used in the United States to design planar geosynthetic-improved unpaved and paved roads when geotextile, geogrid, or geocomposite is used for separation, drainage, and/or reinforcement.
