Flow Through Annulus with Large Radial Clearance
This investigation deals with a theoretical analysis of the characteristics of a fully developed turbulent helical flow in a concentric annulus, and an experimental program to verify the theoretical results. The results of the theoretical investigation include axial and tangential velocity distributions and the axial friction factors, with the inner cylinder of the annulus rotating at a constant speed. The theoretical results agree closely with the experimental ones. The variation of axial resistance of helical flow is shown to depend on the speed ratio for a given geometry.
