Seismic Design of Diagonal Strap Bracing Using AISI S213
Diagonal strap bracing is a common means of providing lateral stability for a low rise commercial or residential structure in cold formed steel framing and can be used in wind and seismic design. When designing this type of force resisting system there are a number of design and serviceability considerations that should be investigated. These include loads, strap size, fastener quantity, connection detailing, and construction practices. In seismic applications it is particularly important to understand the behavior of diagonal strap bracing. Accordingly predicting the ductility of the system is critical. This presentation will discuss seismic design of diagonal strap bracing in using the provisions of AISI S213-07, the North American Standard for Cold-Formed Steel Framing — Lateral Design.
