A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
For the first time in 40 years, there is presented herein a discussion of the history, methods, and instructions for making mineral land surveys in the United States. Public land surveys, although relatively simpler, have been rather thoroughly treated in modern technical literature. Nevertheless, few people realize the importance of mineral land surveys from the standpoint of the number of such tracts of ground or from the standpoint of the entirely different and rather complicated procedure of surveying or resurveying mineral lands. Not only the methods of making a mineral location are presented, but also the importance of having a competent surveyor or engineer make such a survey is emphasized. The changes in regulations and their effect on the survey, together with the different methods of surveying, are rather completely discussed to assist an ordinary land surveyor in resurveys of mineral land wherever tracts of this type occur in public or private ownerships.
