Deformation of Slurry Filled Permeable Geosynthetic Tubes
Geosynthetic tubes made of woven geosynthetic materials have been used for dike or embankment construction projects in the world. It has also been used for dewatering of digested bio-solids, dredged materials, industrial solid wastes, fly ash and coal slurry materials. In order to improve the understanding of the deformation characteristics of geosynthetic tube during both the filling and dewatering stages, model tests of permeable geosynthetic tubes resting on rigid foundation were carried out. The model test results indicate that the dewatering from geosynthetic tube consists of two stages: the filtration stage and the consolidation stage. The first order rate equation (FORE) method was adopted to analyze the deformation variations during dewatering stage. The relationship established may be used for prediction of the deformation of geosynthetic tubes under similar conditions.
