Tapered and Twisted, Al Raha Plot 815a Strata Tower
Twisting towers present the modern designer with a number of unique challenges and opportunities. The success of such projects often depends on collaboration between the engineer and architect to find a proper balance of structural efficiency and programmatic consistency. This paper explores some of the particular challenges and opportunities that were addressed in the design of the "Strata Tower" at Al Raha Beach development in Abu Dhabi. This unique and exciting twisting and tapering form was resolved using innovative structural geometry and analysis techniques which resulted in a structure that was both cost effective and buildable.
