A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The process of breach erosion in sand-dikes is described. This process consists of five stages. For the final two stages three breach types are distinguished, depending on the credibility of the base of the dike, the presence (or absence) of a solid toe construction on the outer slope and the presence and erodibility of a high foreland. A brief outline of a mathematical model based on the five-step breach growth process is presented. The validation of the model against the data of a field experiment shows good agreement.
