Numerical Simulation of Static Liquefaction of Loose Sand
Liquefaction instability of loose sands may occur in the static condition due to the rise in pore water pressure. When a numerical method is used to study sand stability and simulate liquefaction phenomenon, the elastoplastic constitutive model - which can accurately reflect the characteristics of sandy soil stres sand strain relations, especially the volumetric behavior - should be adopted. In this paper, sign of second order work is used as a criteria for static liquefaction. Loose sand plane strain specimen under undrain condition is analyzed, and the numerical results demonstrate differences of the static liquefaction phenomenon between fast-loading cases and slow loading cases.
