OBJECTIVES The exhibit’s main objective is the critical review of Giuseppe Terragni’s work by examining the projects the comasco (from Como) architect created for Rome. The Roman projects give the opportunity to frame and effectively define the complex figure of an architect, who joined wholeheartedly the battle for the Italian architectural avant-garde, while facing the need to deal with the traditional instances demanded by fascism as well as his own will to marry the rationalist language with an indistinct Mediterranean spirit. Furthermore, this project desires to highlight the relationship between Terragni and his collaborators, especially the artists, who had a key role in his architectural projects development, through a series of sketches, drawings and diagrams found thanks to the precious support of the main archival institutions. RESEARCH HISTORY The research is born out of Flavio Mangione’s idea, then taken up by Luca Ribichini and developed together since 2010 within the Graduate Lab of Facoltà di Architettura (School of Architecture) at University La Sapienza in Rome in collaboration with the CE.S.A.R. Foundation (Centro Studi Architettura Razionalista – Center for Studies on Rationalist Architecture) and the main private and public archive institutes. During this phase, seven of the ten projects were evaluated. Given the quality of the material and the capability of shedding a new light on the city of Rome, the Comitato Tecnico Scientifico della Casa dell’Architettura (Home of Architecture Scientific-Technical Committee) decided to complete the research to create an exhibit that would be welcomed by the main museums in Italy and abroad, starting with an exhibit at Casa dell’Architettura in Rome.
