KUALITAS BATA MERAH DARI PEMANFAATAN TANAH BANTARAN SUNGAI BANJIR KANAL TIMUR
Flood at rainy season caused soil sediment along the side of East Banjirkanal river, the people who lives along the riveruses the soil to make bricks. There are 13 groups of brick workers and each group contains 2 –3 workers, each worker produces about 500 –1000 pieces, so the total product is 20.000 pieces. The brick from this district is less popular rather than from Penggaron, Welahan, Gunungpati, Cepiring etc. Therefore is shruld be analyzed its phycal and mechanic properties to know its nature characteristic. The result of the laboratory test shows that the bricks produced by the workers do not have standart measurement and quality of M-5a, M-5b and M-6. The colour is too red because of the burning technique. Its surface almost all unflat, rectangular and cracking, due to the grain of soil are too smooth therefore is needs much water when it is mixed and when it is heated in out door without bases/pallet, then the drying is not good/ flat. Those caused the bricks curved or unflat. The salt test shows that it fullfills the requiremest and categorized undangeours, it can be used to make wall construction. The absorbtion is 111.605 gram/dm²/minutes this means that it is greater than its suggestion (20 gram/dm²/minutes). If the bricks wall be used in construction it should be soaked in water. The tensile strength is about 12. 1343 kg/cm². therefore it doesn’t fulfill the quality requirement/standart quality level III, it’s lower than 60 –80 kg/cm² and clas 25 less than 25 kg/cm². there is no relation between the water absorbtion and the brick tensile strength R² = 0.2693. It is suggested to increase the quality of bricks and needs further test such as improving the raw material by mixing soil from other district to get better density and more homogennes or making optimum and good mixing and the quality brick drying process sould be unproved.
