A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Ikimokyklinio ugdymo įstaigų architektūra gamtinėje aplinkoje: lauko darželio atvejis ; Architecture of Pre-school Education Institutions in the Natural Environment: the Case of an Outdoor Kindergarten
The relationship between human and nature has always been crucial. Nature is a source of life that allows us to exist, and its preservation is linked to the future of humanity. Today, the younger generation no longer has the same close connection with nature as before, as the progress of society and modern technology is diverting attention from simple but important stages of human life. When creating and nurturing the physical environment of educational institutions, the peculiarities of nature, its naturalness, geological and geomorphological structures should not be forgotten. The natural environment in which children play and learn is highly significant for them. It forms their first impressions, visual images, perception of phenomena, and understanding of causality. Due to rapid urbanization, the expansion of cities, and the abundance of apartment buildings, there are fewer opportunities to see, observe, understand and learn in a natural environment. In the research work, the focus is on statistics of birth rates and the architecture of nature-oriented preschool educational institutions, as examined in social studies conducted by other authors. The principles and features of educational architecture and unconventional educational approaches in Lithuania are analyzed, which serve as the basis for designing buildings in this field. Throughout the study, the aim is to use architectural form to reveal and rethink the relationship between early childhood education and the natural environment.
