Microclimatic Design For Micro-Urban Design. A Case Study In Granada, Spain
The Healthy City design requires a systemic and multi-scale approach, combining adaptation and mitigation and evaluating their effects in terms of quality of life. The paper assesses the impact of a design at micro-urban scale on the outdoor comfort conditions in Santa Adela district (Granada, Spain), a residential district with poor public and semi-public space quality. Therefore, the goal of the project is to promote a healthier urban environment by “redesigning” the microclimate and the space between buildings (or vice-versa). The design strategies adopted consist of: increasing blue and green infrastructure and permeable surfaces; redefining the mobility system; densifying the urban fabric, through the construction of a new multi-storey car parking, to free space for the aforementioned purposes. The modeling and simulation process is carried out in ENVI-met environment on the hottest summer day in 2019, comparing pre- and post-design scenarios. As a result, the design proposal on the public and open spaces strongly and positively impacts the outdoor condition with respect to the main comfort parameters.
