A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
With the rapid development of logistics and fast-paced living environment, air cargo is becoming more and more popular with people as time goes by. However, the greenhouse effect is becoming more and more serious around the world, leading people to pay attention to environmental issues and promote sustainability in all sectors. As one of the largest air cargo companies in the world, FedEx has an air cargo sustainability team. However, due to current social and environmental issues, the sustainability process at FedEx has been slow in recent years. And there is still very little research in this area. This paper analyses the current environmental aspects of sustainability at FedEx and introduces the methods currently used by FedEx in sustainability: FedEx fuel sense, aircraft modernisation, alternative fuels, natural carbon capture centres, and analyses the extent and impact of GHG emissions reduction in these important areas. This paper will analyse the factors affecting direct GHG fuel emissions through quantitative analysis and grey correlation models to identify the problems. The final result is a proposal for optimisation, mainly in terms of route networks, suppliers and the current FedEx fuel sense, in order to make FedEx a more sustainable company. The value of the thesis is to provide some reference value for the environmental aspects of sustainability, so that air cargo sustainability can be further developed.
