Behaviour of Piled Raft Foundation Subjected to Vertical and Static Horizontal Load on Raft
The piled raft foundation can be subjected to both vertical load and horizontal load. The behaviour of the piled raft foundation under the vertical load on raft and the combined vertical and static horizontal load on raft was studied. In the present study, the numerical analysis on piled raft foundation was performed with Plaxis 3D finite element tool. The piled raft models of 3x3 pile group configuration and different thickness of raft were adopted in the finite element analysis. These finite element models were validated first and then the behaviour of piled raft foundation models subjected to vertical load and static horizontal load on raft were examined. The piled raft foundation was carried out on cohesionless soil. The coherionless soil was modeled as Mohr’s Coulomb model and the embedded piles and raft were modeled as linear elastic models. The variable parameters for study were different thickness of raft and the pile head connections with raft. The rigid pile head connection and hinged pile head connection of piles with raft were analyzed for the axial forces, lateral displacement and bending moment on piles in the present study. The interacting behaviour of piled raft foundation with hinged and rigid pile head connections was found different. The configuration of pile group, pile diameter and pile spacing of piled raft foundation models were kept constant for all the numerical models of the study.
