Guide to operating public shelters in a radiation emergency
The multiagency collaboration to produce this guide began with a 2010 workshop in Atlanta, Georgia, organized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO). This workshop engaged mass care providers, radiation control officials, and public health personnel in a facilitated discussion to explore the unique challenges radiation emergencies pose for shelter operations. ; This 66-page document was developed to assist with planning and response efforts related to shelter operations in a radiation emergency. It provides information on the incident-specific considerations that shelter operators will need to take into account in a radiation emergency. Chapters provide information and guidance about screening for radioactive contamination, decontamination, radiation monitoring, registration, health surveillance, and communications. ; Preface -- 1.
