The object – recreational areas of the Neris Regional Park: namely, Saidė, Bagotėliai and Elniakampis recreational areas. The aim – to evaluate the suitability of forests and water bodies of the park for recreation, visitor attendance, and provide suggestions for their optimization. Study methods – analysis of the questionnaire survey results of vacationers; recreation evaluation of the characteristics of stands, forests and water bodies. Results. It was found that in the Neris Regional Park the largest flow of tourists is observed in the summer (55 percent). In the Neris Regional Park the most favorite places for visitors are Dūkštas (20.1 percent) and Karmazinai (16.4 percent) recreational areas. The aims of vacationers are nature observation (25.3 percent), walking (24.7 percent), rest near water bodies (11.5 percen), attendance of the Visitors’ Center (10.9 percent) and cycling (10.5 percent). Recreational areas of the Neris Regional Park are dominated by slightly and averagely suitable for recreation stands. According to the suitability of forest characteristics for recreation, Saidė recreational area is rated as having a limited suitability (3.2 points), while Bagotėlių and Elniakampio recreational areas - as averagely suitable (3.5 and 3.7 points) .Coastal suitability for recreation is best assessed in Bagotėlių recreational area, where appropriate for this purpose coastline comprises 83 percent. The least suitable coastaline is in Saidė recreational area (27 percent). Improving adaptation of forests and water bodies for recreational purposes, it is suggested to carry out landscaping cuttings, reconstruction of the existing camping sites, install prohibiting-warning signs, respite places and campsites.
