Emphasis is placed on those resources that could be affected by the alternatives described in Chapter 2. Unless otherwise indicated, the following discussions refer only to BLM-administered lands in the planning area. The primary sources of information used in describing the affected environment were the Analysis of the Management Situation and other BLM planning documents. An Analysis of the Management Situation Summary was published in December 1990 and public comments on the Summary were used to update and correct the information for this chapter. Other cited references are listed in the References Cited section in Chapter 6. The first two sections of this chapter describe the climate, topography, and geology of the planning area which provides a general setting for the description of the other characteristics of the affected environment" P.
