A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Ecological Infrastructures: The imperative to Redesign Urban Habitats with Nature
In this blended intensive course (two weeks online, two weeks face-to-face in Weimar), students learned about the biological complexity of the urban habitat and how to design multiform networks that operate eco-systematically and engage social, cultural and environmental elements. Five cities were selected to develop the proposals: Bari (Italy), Cardiff (United Kingdom), Ciudad Guzmán (Mexico), Tokyo (Japan) and Valdivia (Chile). In the last phase, the students were tasked with addressing the following objectives: 1. Project Goals; 2. Project Map Out: Determining the problems to solve; Identifying the stakeholders; Defining project objectives; 3. Master Plan: Overall strategy for the site; General frameworks; Phases of implementation and 4. Detailed Specific Actions: Illustration of concrete strategies. The results of the workshop are presented in this “IfEU.OPEN”-publication.
