Globalization, rising resource shortage and ecological challenges put pressure to all industries and enterprises to increase productivity. Factory based industries already cope with that challenges as their processes are highly defined and automated and therefore ready to be transformed gradually. Yet construction industry relying on conventional on site construction which can hardly be increased in productivity any further will have a problem. Already now rising costs in all construction segments wipe away the investors´ profits. So there are two basic directions. One is that construction industry refuses to change now, gets into recession again and will then be changed radically. Another one is that it sets up a “masterplan” for gradual industrialization deploying a high degree of automation and processes controlled by advanced IT ERP solutions thus avoiding future economic losses and further image damage. A IT based next generation construction “masterplan” enabling complete control over material flow, energy and costs could be carried out within the next 20 years by systematically transferring processes and solutions to construction industry in several steps .
