Pastatų elektros instaliacijos ilgalaikio eksploatavimo įtakos gaisrų rizikai tyrimas / ; Investigation of Long-Term Exploitation of Electric Installations on Fire Risk in Buildings.
Ten percent of overall number of fires at building is caused by electrical equipment and wiring faults in Lithuania. The long-term usage of wiring at buildings and structures deteriorate the dielectric properties, mechanical and thermal resistance of a large electrical currents and surge effects. Wire and cable coatings often ignite because of long-term exploitation and can cause rapid fire spread, which can become a source of ignition. Such circumstances are most common in rural areas where the amount of potentially dangerous objects is plenty. This study explores the firing features of coatings of various exploi-tation durations by implementing the method of flame spreading speed. The aim of the study was to assess the influence of long-term exploitation of electrical wiring in buildings on the fire risk. The data obtained experimentally show that the old cable coatings of PVC, plastic and painted plastic has the least speed of flame spreading (up to 125 mm/min). For the cables with rubber coating the flame spread speed was found to be as much as 230 mm/min. It was found that long-term exploitation of non-renovated building wiring increase the fire risk from 2 to 3 times.
