“Alpinescapes”: a Landscape Communication Experience
Alpine landscapes often feature multiple contexts, from areas strongly driven by attractions of sport tourism (summer, winter), to places of everyday life for small local communities, to scatterings of many partially unused areas. Alpine communities typically seek to invest in sustainable development, focusing on the specific character of local food and agricultural resources, the attractiveness of the mountain nature, and the values of disseminated cultural heritage. The current paper offers an exploration of “Alpinescapes” a joint Lombardy-Swiss web-based pilot action for knowledge innovation and sharing of practices for cultural landscapes in the Alpine region. The communications approach is primarily based on a reworking of web cartography, through the use of traditional codes of picturesque representation of the landscape. Between "old codes" and new communication technologies, the tool offers an innovative approach to sharing the images of alpine cultural landscapes.
