A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The fusion between the geological and urban landscapes of Lucania (Italy)
The numerous and striking geological Lucan landscapes, generated by following the emplacement of the Apennines and the structural units of the Bradanic Foredeep and Apulia Foreland followed by the process of mountains dismantling and modelling, are often emphasized by the urban characteristics of villages, districts, ancient buildings made with local materials and traditional techniques of construction. The study identifies and highlights the continuum existing between the full and complex geological Lucan landscapes and "the urban object" and it proposes its enhancement as a real resource, also in compliance with the latest tendency of tourism geology Detailed field surveys and a preliminary thermodynamic analysis have allowed to identify several interesting landscapes worthy of preservation Some thematic itineraries and geological/cultural routes, for which the stops proposed concern the described landscapes, have been then mapped.
