Human Centred Design for Long Distance Relationships
In this modern world, one thing that is happening quite often whether willingly or unwillingly is geographical separation. This thesis focuses on geographical separation which involves people in long distance relationships. I was interested to find out how best technology can be used to support people in long distance relationships by focusing on what they really needed. People in relationships normally face some challenges with communication and intimacy when the distance barrier sets in. Technology has made it possible for such people to communicate. Communication with people we cherish is sometimes deeper than every-day normal communication. In order to understand the challenges and special needs of these people, interviews were conducted with people who are in long distance relationships or have been in it before. Through a brainstorming session and analysis of the unique needs of these people, I came up with ideas on how the design of an interactive platform for them would be like. This design aims to help people in long distance relationships connect easily and social presence.
