Expeditious implementation of the decision-presented here will affect the economy of southwestern Oregon in significant ways. The current allowable harvest level for the Medford District is 213 million board feet (MMBF) per year. Under current economic conditions, that harvest level generates estimated annual revenues of $16,000,000, half of which goes to the U.S. Treasury and half of which is distributed to 18 western Oregon counties. This harvest level also supports approximately 4,900 jobs and local annual income of approximately $79,000, 000. As of July 1985, approximately 100 MMBF of timber are involved in timber sales either sold but not yet awarded (because of protests or appeals), or withheld from scheduled sales pending implementation of this decision. With each passing month prior to implementation, additional scheduled timber sales of approximately 20 MMBF per month will be similarly suspended and unavailable to contribute to economically distressed southwest Oregon industries and local economies" P. 1 [4].
