The objects of the master's study are urban spaces formed with the participation of unused buildings - objects of cultural heritage in the historical zone of the city. The aim of the work is to develop a methodology for the development of public spaces as a way to preserve the architectural heritage and rethink the historical zone. The main tasks of the work: consider examples of world practices, study the literature, develop a theoretical and methodological research apparatus, identify approaches to stimulate initiatives for the development of open spaces and increase the investment attractiveness of degraded heritage sites, test the developed approaches in the process of experimental planning. Using methods such as document and literature analysis, bibliographic and comparative analysis, as well as expert polls, it was concluded that public spaces can be a means of revalorizing historical zones with the right approach. Since the reason for the degradation of historical objects and territories can be considered the lack of investment attractiveness, the following actions were identified that are necessary to achieve the goal. First of all, it is necessary to conduct a high-quality field and desk analysis. Secondly, draw up a list of stakeholders and establish communication with them. After these steps, you can proceed to the process of developing the concept of space. However, it is necessary to take into account many details that are presented in the results of the research work.
