Structural Changes and Technology Utilization in German Construction
Since the end of the second world war competitive pressure and international competition have been a drive for German industry. Under high pressure it created productivity, innovation and high quality products. Companies reinvested their profits and Germany soon reached a high level of technology and achieved a widespread standard of high salaries. Both is a reason for Germanys’ social and economical wealth today. Nevertheless the wealth of Germanys’ population can only be kept and enhanced if industries carry on in that tradition and further develop the technological advantage, as in the future productivity, innovation and high quality will be related to technology more than ever before. After years of recession most sections of German industry have identified the signs of globalization, CO2 and resource shortage and are now on the right way with technological innovation. Yet in construction industry the situation is worse than ever before. Structural changes and constant loose of relative importance during the last decades combined with inflexibility of architects, companies and workers have led to high unemployment, shrinking skills, declining productivity and a decreasing permeation of technology.
