In October 1989 the Hong Kong Government announced the decision to build a new airport at Chek Lap Kok on the northern shore of Lantau Island. The decision was subsequently sanctioned by the Sino-British Governments, to provide access to the new airport which was scheduled to be substantially completed by mid 1997. A series of roadworks including the West Kowloon Expressway had to be completed in time with the opening of the new airport. The expressway was finally opened to traffic in February 1997. ; 1. Teachers can draw examples and illustrative material for lectures and demonstration. 2. Students can use the web-site for research and project work. ; 1. To enable virtual site visits. 2. To provide multi-media enhancement of teaching and learning material. 3. To provide supplementary material for courses in Civil and Building Engineering. 4.
