Knowledge of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management of the Barangay Officials in Barbaza, Antique
This descriptive–survey study was conducted to assess the level of knowledge on disaster risk reduction and management during natural disasters of 190 barangay officials in Barbaza, Antique. The respondents were grouped as to age, sex, educational attainment, and length of service as barangay officials. The data gathered were subjected to descriptive statistical tests and inferential analysis using a t-test, and the Analysis of Variance was set at a 0.05 level of significance. Results showed that barangay officials were moderately knowledgeable about disaster risk reduction and management. It shows no significant difference in the knowledge on disaster risk reduction and management for natural disasters when classified according to sex and educational attainment and significant when classified according to age and length of service. Further, it is recommended for the barangay council conduct an information campaign on DRRM, training, and drills related to its programs and guidelines by collaborating with government and non-government agencies.
