Assessing Strategic Sustainable Development in tools for Inclusive Business
Systemic poverty, social disruption, and environmental degradation are the most urgent sustainability challenges humanity confronts today. Inclusive Business (IB) can play a role in dealing with sustainable challenges, offering innovative solutions to tackle key environmental and social challenges. Considering the lack of clear guidance regarding the way IB measure their impacts, the goal of this research was to evaluate eight impact assessment tools for IB practitioners and assess how useful these tools are to move a business strategically towards the success of sustainability, as is defined by the 8 Sustainability Principles of the FSSD. Two review processes were used to analyze the tools the 5 Level Framework (5LF) and the FSSD. The (5LF) is useful to plan in complex systems while the FSSD is designed to help change towards a sustainable society. The results present which tools, based on their features, can assist a company to move towards sustainability and explain how they address different aspects of the sustainability principles. Guidances were developed which included key characteristics of the tools that could help Inclusive Business practitioners to choose the most suitable tool that best meets their needs.
