I 29.2: C 85/2 ; 38 ; Includes ill., forms and some col. maps. ; "In the spring of 1984, the National Park Service presented a draft plan and environmental assessment for the redevelopment of the Rim Village in Crater Lake National Park. The alternatives were generally accepted by the public, except for considerable concern about Crater Lake Lodge. Only one alternative (alternative C) provided for continued use of the lodge if a cost-effective adaptive use could be found. At public meetings and in written comments you, the public, suggested that the Park Service should restudy the entire issue of preservation or adaptive use of the lodge. Since those meetings, we have hired private consultants to study possible rehabilitation of the lodge, and using that information, have further studied adaptive use options. The study has been closely monitored by representatives of the historic preservation community. At the same time, another firm has been working on the design of facilities at Mazama Campground and studying concepts for new lodging and interpretive and day use facilities. These studies are available for inspection at park headquarters and at the Pacific Northwest Regional Office" P. 3.
