Šviesos simbolių sprendimai Mimar Koca Sinan (1490–1588 m.) mečečių architektūroje / ; Light symbol solutions in the architecture of the mosques of mimar koca sinan (1490-1588).
Mimar Koca Sinan, the most famous architectural genius of the Ottoman Empire and the 16th century, was known for his architectural innovations and solutions, and was a role model for many architects who followed him. Because of his military background, he travelled constantly with the Ottoman empire army and was probably inspired by the different architectural structures he saw. In order to understand the meaning of some of his architectural deeds, it is important to understand the background to his work. Living among Muslims in the Ottoman Empire, Mimar Hoca Sinan was certainly aware of the symbols of light and their meanings in Islamic culture. It is one of the names of God and an element that appears quite frequently in the Qu‘ran. The most important verse of the Qur'an, on which the eminent Islamic philosophers Al-Ghazali and Al-Tabari have spent a great deal of time interpreting the verse of 'Light' and have given slightly different interpretations of it. The architecture of Mimar Koca Sinan, the famous architect of the Ottoman Empire, is described as innovative. Of course, he also drew on other architectural works, studied them and learnt from the mistakes made by their architects and improved them. The most influential of his architectural influences was the well-known Hagia Sophia. It is not surprising, then, that there are so many similarities between them. The mosques Suleymaniye and Selimiye are the most representative of Mimar Koca Sinan's work. They are at the same time very similar and show Mimar Koca Sinan's main architectural features, such as the introduction of light into the interior. On the other hand, there are also a number of differences between them, as they are separated by a considerable period of time. Comparing the two buildings and their solutions to the light symbols in the mosques, it is possible to observe the maturity of Mimar Koca Sinan and the focus on quite different elements. The Süleymaniye Mosque is youthful and bright, while the Selimiye Mosque is restrained and mystical.
