Applications of energy storage systems in wind and photovoltaic parks
The deployment of renewable generating systems in electrical grids is a technological challenge because of the variability of renewable resources, e.g. wind and sun. One of the possible tools to make the power output profile of a wind or PV park fully controllable is to include an energy storage system (e.g. a battery bank) in there. However, such option is still incipient and subjected to numerous options: i) Is this a feasible option economic terms?; ii) What are the services such energy storage system could provide in the park and how such services are to be monetized in electrical markets?; iii) What are the technological barriers for the integration of an energy storage system in a wind or PV park? Addressing above questions, the first main objective of the present project is to define the potential applications for energy storage systems in renewable-based power plants. Also, the second main objective is to quantify the technical and economic impact of the inclusion of such storages. The methodology includes literature review, modeling and simulation and mathematical optimization. ; Incoming
