Accessibility in public and commercial buildings in barcelona
The present Final Degree Project focuses on the accessibility of public and commercial buildings in Barcelona, specifically the adaptation of two public buildings, the Francesc Boix Poble-sec Library and the 12@16 Poble-sec Youth Space. The project is strictly linked with the CASBA Project - Commerce Accessible Without Barriers, promoted by the Municipal Institute of People with Disabilities, which aims at the following points: • Train young architects in accessibility. • Make local commerce more accessible. • Raise awareness among students, merchants, and citizens about the needs and rights of people with disabilities. • Ensure that people with disabilities are included in the community. • Make Barcelona a more inclusive and accessible city. In this project, a proposal is developed to improve these spaces, but above all, to enhance the wellbeing of its users. The rehabilitation and renovation will be carried out in a way that minimizes impact on the structure, whenever possible, and does not affect the users. A part of this work was also presented at the closing ceremony of the CASBA Project at the SantsMontjuic District Headquarters on May 16, 2024. During this event, the proposals for accessibility improvements made in these two buildings were presented.
