The impact of energy rating in the home buying process
Housing consumes a great deal of energy, and the EU is constantly working towards increasing the level of environmental friendly buildings and consuming habits. Energy certificate has been compulsory in Finland since 2008. The objective of this study was to research whether energy rating was considered in the house buying process. Another objective was to examine the level of knowledge concerning energy ratings. However, the study focused on potential first-time buyers and their future aims concerning their living conditions. The study was implemented by using the quantitative research approach, since the aim was to collect a representative sample. The data collection was executed by conducting a survey which was sent to 42 potential respondents. The aim was to reach respondents from the area of Central Finland. According to the results, energy rating had an impact on the buying process, but it was a minor one. Generally, the level of knowledge regarding the energy rating was not on a high level, since the majority of the respondents did not know what determined the energy rate. However, the lack of knowledge did not seem to have an impact on the respondents’ opinions on the importance of the rating ; Asuminen kuluttaa merkittävän määrän energiaa. EU työskentelee taukoamatta parantaakseen rakennusten ympäristöystävällisyyttä ja energiatehokkuutta. Energiatodistus on ollut Suomessa pakollinen vuodesta 2008 lähtien. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää ensiasunnon ostajien suhtautumista energiatodistukseen ja energialuokkiin. Ennen kaikkea tutkimuksen pääpaino oli selvittää energiatodistuksen vaikutus asunnon ostoprosessissa sekä kartoittaa yleistä tietämystä energialuokista ja tulevaisuuden asumissuunnitelmista. Tutkimus toteutettiin käyttämällä määrällistä, eli kvantitatiivista tutkimusmenetelmää.
