A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The primary objective of this thesis, entitled “MERGE”, is to reuse the site of Tibblebadet, the former swimming hall in Täby, Sweden. The project aims to integrate a new multifunctional structure that is in line with the future urban plan of Täby Centrum. By architecturally exploring and designing merged spaces for a sports hall and a theater, the project intends to create a vibrant community hub that caters to the local youth and broader community needs. In collaboration with the Municipality of Täby and under the supervision of the City Architect Martin Edfelt, this thesis has become an extension of the ongoing detailed planning development for Täby Centrum. The proposed scenario on which MERGE is based involves the demolition of the existing Tibble gymnasium, Tibblehallen, Tibblebadet and Tibble Theater, to be replaced by residential buildings, a new gymnasium and a new sports center. Given the recent construction of a new swimming hall in Täbypark, the focus shifts to creating a multifunctional building on the site of the old Tibblebadet. The project aims to merge the functions of Tibblehallen and Tibbleteatern and create a space that supports various leisure activities, from sports to cultural performances. The architectural effort will not only meet the practical needs of the community but also contribute to strengthening the social and cultural fabric of Täby Centrum.
