Inclusive Cities: Tools to guarantee accessibility
The goal of having inclusive and accessible cities is a universally recognized need. It becomes important to take stock of some planning and regulatory tools, available to government bodies and designers, to improve the accessibility of the built environment, not before having defined precisely the concepts related to the accessibility. What is available: first, the Design for All approach, useful for designing, developing and supplying products, goods and services for the widest range of users; second, the international regulatory activity, to ensure inclusion and participation at all scale; third, good practices examples. It’s now up to governments and local authorities, but also to the designers, to know how to make good use of the tools available in order to overcome the logic of satisfying the simple minimum requirement, aiming instead to guarantee supportive and inclusive cities that meet everyone’s needs.
