Denna studie behandlar ekologisk hållbar utveckling inom den kommunala planeringsprocessen. Den ekologiska dimensionen av hållbar utveckling är ett omtalat begrepp inom landskapsarkitekturen och har på senare tid fått ta en allt större roll i diskussioner på olika planeringsnivåer och blivit ett övergripande mål inom samhällsutvecklingen. Med en i dagsläget succesivt försämrad miljö och resursbas kan samhällsutvecklingen inte fortsätta i samma takt och riktning. Därför kan ekologisk hållbarhet ses som en grundförutsättning för kommande generationers fortsatta samhällsutveckling. Studien baserar sig på en kritisk granskning av Lunds kommun och dess policydokument för en ekologisk hållbar utveckling. Syftet var att undersöka hur väl visioner för en ekologisk hållbar utveckling efterföljs på kommunal planeringsnivå och konkretiseras i praktiken. Genom en kritisk granskning hade studien som vision att undersöka om det fanns ett eventuellt glapp mellan teori och praktik. Detta skulle i så fall påvisa att arbetet gällande ekologisk hållbar utveckling borde kunna förbättras inom den kommunala planeringsprocessen. Resultatet visade att kommunens miljödokument verkställs i relativ hög frekvens, samt att miljöprogrammet indirekt används i planeringsprocessen. Planerarna på stadsbyggnadskontoret arbetar främst med miljömålen genom kunskapsutveckling gällande ekologisk hållbarhet och tillsammans med förvaltningens miljösamordnare. Dock visade det sig att ett visionsprogram som miljöprogram innebar att åtgärderna blev tolkningsbara och där med svårare för förvaltningarna att genomföra. Trots detta har Lunds kommun ett väl etablerat miljöarbete, mycket tack vare att alla verksamheter i kommunen arbetar efter ett så kallat miljöledningssystem. ; This study is dealing with the development of ecological sustainability within the local planning process. The ecological dimension of sustainable development is a well-known concept within landscape architecture and this has recently played a larger and larger role in discussions regarding planning at different levels and has become a comprehensive goal within public development. As the environmental base of resources is continuously deteriorating the direction of public development must change. This means that the development of ecological sustainability is a basic condition for all public development. The study is based on a critical examination of Lunds kommun and their objective documents for ecological sustainable development. The purpose was to examine to what extent their visions of ecological durable development was implemented at the local planning level and to what extent it could be observed in practice. The purpose of this critical examination was to find out if there could be a possible discrepancy between theory and practice. If this would be the case it would give a signal that the work with the development of the ecological sustainability within the local planning process could be further improved. The result of the study shows that the environmental objectives document of the municipality is implemented at a relatively high frequency and also that the environmental programme is used in the planning process. By increasing the knowledge regarding ecological sustainability and working together with responsible environmental coordinators, the planners at the local planning authorities is working on several environmental targets. However it was shown that the visions of the environmental programme was on a level that the actions to reach the targets were too open for interpretation and therefore made them hard to implement. Despite of this, the municipality of Lund has a well established environmental programme, mainly because the fact that all of the units in the city is working after a so called environmental lead programme.
