Architectural Features Of Cit Sabha And Kanaga Sabha In Chidambaram Nataraja Temple
Architecture is an art that combines in itself technology, aesthetics and fantasy. It is one of the fine arts and incorporates the other arts. Architecture which is still living in India has been generally developed with the construction of temples. Indian architecture stands as a material record for spiritualism. It is considered that god and his temple correspond to the sow and body of a human being. Chidambaram, the headquarters of the taluk of the same name in the Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu is situated on the Villupuram-Mayiladuthurai section of the Southern Railway. The Nataraja temple complex as it stands today has an unrivalled serenity and dignity. It covers a rectangular area of between 52 and 53 acres – measuring nearly 400 yard in length and 350 yards in width. Thus three types of Hindu worship namely Rupa (Form), Arupa (Formless), Rupa-Arupa (Form and Formless) are accommodated in the Cit Sabha; worship of Lord Nataraja being Rupa, the Rahasya Arupa and the worship of Linga Rupa-Arupa. Chidambaram Nataraja temple is centre of the universe, and its shrine the responsible for the promotion of Nataraja cult through the ages
