Šiaulių miesto želdynų valdymo analizė ir vertinimas ; The green space of Šiauliai city management‘s analysis and evaluation
Šiauliai is one of the largest cities in Lithuania, where urbanization processes are very intense. As a result, it is a very important to ensure an appropriate urban infrastructure—especially in green urban areas—that provides a good quality of life in the city. This paper analyses the structure of greenery system in Siauliai city in order to evaluate the quality and efficiency of its management. The main issue of this research: the deficiency of comprehensive analytical assessment of the green space management in Šiauliai city. The aim: to analyse and evaluate the management efficiency of green space in Šiauliai city. The main tasks: 1. to review the legislation of urban green areas; 2. to examine the history of Geographic Information System (GIS), as well as its use and application possibilities for the environment protection and management of green areas; 3. to analyse the structure and management of green areas in current city of Siauliai; 4. to assess the management of the green space system in Šiauliai city while using GIS technology and the population survey. During the research following methods were adapted: the analysis of literature and legislative; the spatial data analysis and evaluation while using GIS; empirical research - quantitative population survey and examination of the obtained data. This investigation led to the conclusion that Šiauliai city is rich in greenery, but its management is inefficient: urban parks are located irrationally; according to respondents, recreational green areas are in a poor quality. At the end of the paper is suggesting how to improve the state of green areas in Šiauliai city and how to manage it more effectively.
