Job-stress Assessment Amongst Building and Construction Workers in Bihta, India
Context: Unorganized sector constitutes a central part of the Indian economy. The condition of Building and Construction Workers are at a greater risk. A lot many factors add in to stress in the workers such as over workload, lengthy working hours, relationships with co-workers and management, harassment and less opportunities to advance in one’s skill level.Aims: To know the work-stress among workers involved in construction industry in bihta, India.Methods: The present cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted by selecting 800 building and construction workers by judgmental sampling.Statistical analysis: The comparison of qualitative data was done using chi-square test. The confidence limit for significance was fixed at 95% level with p-value < 0.05.Results: Out of 800 workers, 82% were between age group of 16 to 50 years. Most of the workers had moderate level of stress (61%). The role conflict part of stress scale had most important role (64.1%). A significant increase in stress levels among workers was noted with increase in the duration in present job (p< 0.05).Conclusion: Building and construction work put a significant amount of stress on workers which increases with duration in present job.
