KAJIAN EKSPERIMEN PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN SILINDER SIRKULAR TERHADAP KINERJA TURBIN AIR SAVONIUS SUMBU VERTIKAL (STUDI KASUS PERUBAHAN JARAK KEDUA SILINDER SIRKULAR TERHADAP TEGAK LURUS ARAH ALIRAN)
Savonius water turbine is a type of vertical axis water turbine which has advantages such as being able to work on low fluid flow speeds and has a high starting torque. Savonius turbine can be applied to the flow of water flowing to produce mechanical energy from the kinetic energy of the water flow. The method used in this study is an experiment. The test model has a height 40 cm and diameter 40 cm. The model was tested in an open water channel with a cross section size 1100 mm and height 900 mm. Measurements are made at a current speed of 0.22 m/s by measuring turbine rotation and torque. This study uses variations in diameter ds/D = 0,2, ds/D = 0,3, ds/D = 0,4 and distance variations s/D=0,5, s/D=0,9, s/D=1,65. To improve the performance of the turbine, then added a barrier in the form of a circular cylinder with variations in diameter (d) 8 cm, 12 cm and 16 cm in front of blade advancing. This research was conducted using distance variations y/D = 0,7 and with x/D = 0,95. Turbine rotation measurement can be measured using a tachometer and torque can be measured using the brake dynamometer mechanism. The results obtained from this study are the use of barrier cylinders placed on the side of blade advancing proven to be effective in increasing the Savonius water turbine. It is marked on ds/D=0.4 and s/D=1.65 has increased torque efficiency by 50.01% compared to conventional water turbines without using a barrier cylinder, so is the value of the power coefficient increases by around 53.98%. In addition, the variation in s/D studied affected the performance of the Savonius water turbine. In the case of the fixed Reynolds number used in this study, it was found that the distance s/D=1.65 and for variations in cylinder ds/D=0.2 and ds/D=0.3 proved to be effective in increasing the Savonius water turbine used in this study. This is indicated by the peak value of the rotation, torque and the Coefficient of Power turbine
