A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
BIM with Building Sustainability Relating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to simulations
A building project includes the participation of various actors, such as architects, engineers, projectmanagers, and clients. Lack of efficient communication and lack of information exchange methods arethe biggest problems during the early construction process, that results in errors during design-makingand cost more money and time. Therefore, applying BIM in a project provides a platform keep everyonein touch with others and information can be accessed by every actor, which contributes a lot to designmaking. This study shows that building performance simulation programs can be used to measure sustainabilityof buildings. They provide energy, carbon, day-lighting, comfort analysis, and so forth, that helpsresearchers to predict and study a building’s performance, then making design changes to improve andto attain the optimal designs. This thesis chooses three different types of simulation programs, that canall work with BIM.With an aim to construct sustainable buildings, in this thesis, the UN 17 Sustainable DevelopmentGoals (SDG) are the supporting targets, which considered several environmental, economic ,and socialdevelopment goals. This study only focuses on the construction industry, therefore, 5 of the SDG havebeen chosen because they can be directly connected by building simulation results. The aim of this thesis is to investigate how to achieve building sustainable development goals byapplying building technology, in an attempt to establish a relationship system between SDG andbuilding sustainability simulation results. A simple test building model was built in Stockholm,Sweden, with the model designing tool -Revit. Then it will be imported into three different simulationtools - Sefaira, Green Building Studio, and IES-VE, where the simulation results would be given. Theinterconnections between SDG and simulation results would be presented through graphs and detailedwords, that explains how to achieve SDG by applying building model simulation and provides morepossibility for future study on building ...
