SEISMIC RESPONSES OF CONCENTRICALLY BRACED STEEL FRAME BUILDINGS
This paper presents seismic response of concentrically braced steel frame buildings. Lateral stability is important for the steel structures in the seismic zones. The effective way to increase the lateral strength is by means of bracing system. In order to achieve the goal of study different configurations of bracing systems are undertaken, Diagonal braced frames (DBF), Inverted V- braced frames (IVBF) and crossed (X) braced frames (XBF). To study the response of braced frame on the lateral stability of steel building, three models are taken two storey, four storey and eight storey steel frame buildings. It shows how to model the steel buildings using a finite element computer software called seismostruct 2016 and response of frames had been studied using non-linear static analysis (push over analysis). Various parameters such as capacity curves, lateral load capacity, inter storey drift, lateral displacement, performance criteria, bending moments and reaction forces were studied. The result shows that the lateral displacements of the building using X-braced systems are decreased by an average ratio of 47.83%. This indicates that this bracing gives better performance for lateral load resistance
