Effects of Components of Blended Biomass Pellets on Mechanical Properties, Gasification Reactivity, Alkali, HCl and H2S Release
The pellets have been produced from ground hard wood, wood-straw, wood-cardboard paper and wood-char mixtures. The milled straw, wood and paper particles were below 0.5 mm. The ground wood char particles were below 0.8 mm. The straw particles have been treated by water solution of NaOH to improve their properties. The final composition of the mixed pellets (diameter 8 mm, length 12 – 25 mm) was as follows: wood-straw and wood-paper 75/25 mass % , wood-char pellets 93/7 mass %. Laboratory abrasion/attrition comparative tests have been applied for estimation of effect of additional material (straw, paper, char) on pellet abrasion properties. The wood-straw and wood-paper pellets exhibited lower tendency to attrition/abrasion than the single wood pellets. Gasification tests of the pellets performed at 855 oC by a gas mixture containing 50 vol. % N2 and 50 vol. % CO2 confirmed relatively high reactivity of the wood-straw pellets caused by relatively high alkali (K + Na) content in ash.
